The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course is a diploma program designed to educate nursing candidates to work efficiently as part of the healthcare delivery system, emphasizing the care of individuals, families, and communities. The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, including anatomy and physiology, psychology, microbiology, hygiene, personal and environmental health, and specific nursing practices related to medical, surgical, pediatric, and obstetric care, among others.
Practical training is a crucial part of the GNM program, providing hands-on experience in hospitals and healthcare settings to prepare students for the real-world challenges of nursing and midwifery. Graduates of the GNM program can register as registered nurses and midwives (RNM) with the State Nurse Registration Council (SNRC). They are qualified to work in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, community health centres, private clinics, and schools, as well as pursue further education in nursing.
