The Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM) course is a diploma program designed to prepare nurses to work in community health settings. This program, spanning 2 years, focuses on training students in basic health care and midwifery to support the community by providing primary healthcare services, maternal care, and assistance in childbirth. The curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills in community health, pharmacology, health promotion, and disease prevention, among other areas.
Graduates of the ANM course play a crucial role in India's healthcare system, working closely with community health workers and public health centres to improve healthcare accessibility and outcomes. They are trained to work under the guidance of medical professionals and are often the first point of contact for health care in rural areas. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates are eligible to register with the Nursing Council of India, allowing them to work as certified nursing assistants across various healthcare settings.
